It’s Official: We Have Entered the “BER” Months🍂

A Wellness Reflection on Change, Transition & Trust

September is here—which means we’ve officially entered the “BER” months: September, October, November, and December.

There’s something about this time of year that naturally signals change. The temperatures begin to shift. The days grow shorter. Leaves prepare to change colors and eventually release from the trees. Summer slowly gives way to fall, and before we know it, another year will be coming to a close.

Nature reminds us of something we sometimes struggle to accept:

Change is a part of becoming.

From a mental health perspective, transitions—even positive ones—can be uncomfortable. Change interrupts what is familiar. It asks our minds and bodies to adjust to new routines, expectations, relationships, roles, and sometimes even a new version of ourselves.

That’s why transitions can bring mixed emotions. We can be grateful and grieving. Excited and anxious. Ready and still a little afraid. Two things can be true at the same time.

But Scripture reminds us that seasons are not accidental.

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

God understands seasons.

Some seasons are for planting. Some are for growing. Some are for harvesting. And some are for releasing.

Perhaps one of the wellness lessons of the “BER” months is learning not to fight every transition. The trees don’t panic when their leaves begin to change. They simply respond to the season they have entered.

Maybe we can learn something from them.

As we move through these final months of the year, consider asking yourself: What is changing in my life? What am I being invited to release? What needs my attention in this season? And who might I be becoming through it all?

You don’t have to have every answer today. Healthy transition often requires giving ourselves permission to adjust, reflect, grieve what was, embrace what is, and trust God with what is becoming.

So welcome to the “BER” months. 🍂

May this season remind us that change doesn’t always mean something is ending—sometimes it means something new is beginning.

And even when the season changes, we can hold tightly to this truth:

God remains the same.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8
